Area G summary, 7-12th July 2008

We started this month with the removal of the top (modern) layers of our trench. The walls that can be related to the ones in the granaio had been identified teh month before, so our aim was to excavated down to the Roman level. Since the trench is on a slope, also the layers in the trench slope. We identified from top to bottom the preparation for the modern road, the levelling layers for that preparation and the earlier (possibly still 18th-19th C) destruction layers which contained a lot of medieval ceramics and marble. Nextg week we will continue to remove these layers to find the Roman destruction layers.
